About Us

Welcome to Cinema Cocktail, a website dedicated to exploring film and the art of the moving image through reviews and analysis, special coverage of festivals and awards, guides to homes media and streaming services, as well as podcasts and an ongoing conversation with the wider online film community.

Good cinema’s a lot like a good cocktail, sometimes you have the perfect elements working together to make a masterpieces, and sometimes you have disparate ingredients that bring out each other’s strengths and subtleties, nuances and flavors that we never noticed before.

Like cocktails, not every film will be to every viewer’s taste, but all are welcome here. Hopefully we’ll learn from each other, step out of our comfort zones a bit, and walk away with a few new recommendations.

Welcome to Cinema Cocktail.

Vision

We see engagement with the art of cinema opening our hearts to the world around us, stoking the fires of our imagination, stimulating our curiosity and intellect, and building our empathy for others.

Mission

Cinema Cocktail seeks to create a space where everyone can engage more deeply with the art of cinema – in all of its many flavors and varieties.

Values

      • Cinema: We value cinema and the art of the moving image wherever it can be found, however long it may be, no matter the scale, and regardless of its genre or classification.
      • Excellence: We value excellence in the art of cinema and always seek to engage with and explore why a film does or doesn’t accomplish what it intends through a discussion of the filmmaking process.
      • Appreciation: We value the appreciation of cinema and are eager to engage with the art form in a manner that can explore a work’s flaws and successes from a position of respect and curiosity rather than one of mockery or derision.
      • Equity: We value equity and inclusion in cinema and the ways in which we engage with cinema – championing the work of filmmakers from underrepresented communities, working with practitioners from those communities, and exploring equity and inclusion (or their absence) within a given film.
      • Accessibility: We value accessibility and desire to meet individuals where they are in the depth of their engagement with cinema, and believe in removing barriers (physical, economic, technological) so as many people as possible can encounter the art of cinema and join in the surrounding conversations.
      • Belonging: We value belonging and believe that everyone has a place within the film community – from those creating the art, to the critics evaluating the art, to the audiences viewing the art – regardless of their level of experience or expertise.
